Work Injuries & Workers' Comp

A work injury is an injury that happens on the job, from a back strain after heavy lifting to repetitive strain at a desk. If you were injured at work, physical therapy helps you heal, return to work and learn how to avoid the same injury. We provide workers comp physical therapy, also called workers compensation PT, in Chubbuck and Pocatello, Idaho, and Matt Krammen, PT, DPT, Cert DN is the orthopedic therapist who sees many of these patients.

Why work is such a common place to get hurt

You spend many hours at work, often repeating the same motions many times a day. Deadlines make even safe tasks riskier. Add the wish to prove yourself and it is a recipe for injury. No job is risk-free, from the warehouse floor to the office.

Injured at work: the injuries we see most

Back pain

Lifting wrong is one cause, and sitting at a desk all day is another. Read Back Pain.

Tendinitis and overuse

Doing something over and over, from typing to ladling soup, can inflame tendons. Treating it early beats waiting. See Elbow Pain (Tennis & Golfer's Elbow) and Shoulder Pain.

Carpal tunnel syndrome

Anyone who uses their hands at work is at risk, from office workers to factory workers. See Carpal Tunnel.

Accidents behind the wheel

Driving for work raises the chance of a crash. Whiplash and joint injuries can be treated, and Neck Pain covers the neck side.

How physical therapy gets you back to work

The goal is to heal and return to work as quickly as is safe. Treatment includes exercises that make you stronger and more mobile, hands-on care, and a look at how you do your job, so your habits change and you are less likely to be hurt again.

It can take time to retrain how you do tasks without hurting yourself. Once the patterns are down, you can work with more confidence.

How a workers' comp case works with us

Every claim has paperwork. Here is the usual path.

  1. Tell us it is a work injury

When you call, mention it is a workers compensation claim. We accept workers compensation, along with Medpay and auto injury liens.

  2. Bring your claim details

Your claim number and your adjuster or case manager's contact information help us start. Call us if you are unsure what to bring.

  3. Evaluation and plan

Your therapist examines the injury, builds your plan and talks it through with you, including what work you can do while you heal.

  4. Updates and return to work

We can work with your employer, adjuster or case manager on light duty and return-to-work planning. Call to talk through how that works for your claim.

Work conditioning, work hardening, FCE and ergonomics

Some employers and adjusters ask for work conditioning, work hardening, a functional capacity evaluation (FCE) or an ergonomic assessment of your tasks. Our therapists do look at how you work and teach safer movement and lifting. If your claim calls for a formal program or evaluation, call us before your first visit and we will tell you what we can provide.

See a doctor or go to the ER first if you have

  • A suspected broken bone or a deep cut
  • Chest pain, trouble breathing or a head injury
  • Loss of bladder or bowel control, or numbness in the groin
  • Severe pain that is getting worse quickly

Report the injury to your employer and follow your claim's rules. We accept most insurance plans and verify your benefits before you arrive. Auto injury liens, Medpay and workers compensation are accepted, and there is a self-pay option. Call the office to confirm your plan.
