Whole-Body Movement Release
Whole-body movement release is a physical therapy method that looks at how your whole body moves, not just the sore spot, and uses comfortable motions to release restrictions. Our physical therapists in Chubbuck, Idaho, including Jared Pugmire, PT, DPT, FAAOMPT, Dip Osteopractic, Cert. SMT/DN/VCS, PT, DPT, FAAOMPT, use it with patients from Chubbuck and Pocatello and can pair it with any hands-on technique.
The whole body, not just the sore part
This method can be used to enhance any manual technique. The whole body is used instead of just the affected area. The lower body can be used to help the upper body, and the right side can be used to help the left.
Traditional thinking says that to strengthen the weak side you exercise the weak side. This method goes the other way. The body is one unified system, so pain and movement in one area may be affected by another area.
How a session is organized
The method was built so that a patient's home program could be backed by data.
Pick the issue of the session
The therapist starts by isolating the problem to work on that day.
Compare right to left
A set of key motions is compared side to side and ranked in order of significance.
Balance the two sides
Exercises are performed to balance both sides, using sustained holds and repetitions.
Record and adjust
Everything is recorded, so the therapist can see how you respond and make changes.
What it tests, and why a stiff spot may not be the source
It tests the five largest joints in the body, the spine, shoulders, hips, knees and ankles, using six motions.
Compensation shows up
The body wants to be in balance. Pain or tightness during a test can mean other parts of you are overused or compensating.
An example
A restricted mid back that does not help move the neck can leave both the low back and neck overused and sore. Improving hip and back motion can ease both.
Comfortable motion
You use comfortable motions instead of painful ones, and no equipment is needed.
A routine you can take home
One advantage over traditional approaches is that it teaches you how to work on the problem yourself, wherever the pain is. You can learn it from a physical therapist, or in group sessions, and repeat the motion on your own.
It pairs naturally with Manual Therapy and Therapeutic Exercise. We see patients from Chubbuck and Pocatello, Idaho. Idaho allows direct access to physical therapy, so you do not need a referral from a doctor to begin. Some insurance plans, and Medicare typically, may still require one. Auto injury liens, Medpay and workers compensation are accepted, and there is a self-pay option. Call the office to confirm your plan.
