Osteopractic Physical Therapy
Osteopractic physical therapy is a sub-specialty with post-graduate training in spinal and extremity thrust manipulation, dry needling, instrument-assisted manual therapies and differential diagnostics for neuromusculoskeletal conditions. It is the training behind our name. Jared Pugmire, PT, DPT, FAAOMPT, Dip Osteopractic, Cert. SMT/DN/VCS, PT, DPT, FAAOMPT, holds the diploma and treats patients in Chubbuck and Pocatello, Idaho.
What an osteopractic diploma is
According to our own description, the osteopractic sub-specialty is an evidence-based post-graduate training program. It covers spinal and extremity thrust manipulation, ultrasound-guided dry needling, instrument-assisted manual therapies and differential diagnostics, all for diagnosing and treating neuromusculoskeletal conditions.
Differential diagnostics means working out which of several possible causes is behind your symptoms, so the treatment matches the problem.
Why a specialist can matter for joint and muscle pain
You see an orthopedist for a broken bone, a dermatologist for a skin condition and a pediatrician for your child. In the same way, when you have neck pain, low back pain, headaches, tennis elbow, heel pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, knee osteoarthritis, plantar fasciitis, shoulder impingement or joint pain, it makes sense to look for a specialist within physical therapy rather than a generalist.
An osteopractic physical therapist, or osteopractor, is trained specifically, with advanced post-graduate qualifications, to treat these neuromusculoskeletal conditions.

Dry needling
Thin needles placed in muscle and trigger points, covered on our Dry Needling page.
Instrument-assisted work
Tools used to treat soft tissue, explained on our Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) page.
